This quote appears on the opening page of artist Ellen Heck’s book, Six Years of Printmaking at the Kala Art Institute. Truly a current-day Mary Cassatt, printmaker Ellen Heck explores the human experience through the language of printmaking. She believes “we are all perpetual printmakers, constantly leaving traces of ourselves on the world around us.” Heck holds degrees from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Brown University. She works as a printmaker in North Carolina. She has a rich exhibition history at galleries and museums throughout the United States and abroad. Her work is in collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Cleveland Art Museum, Stanford University, and the Swope Art Museum, to name a few.
