It is unusual to find an artist who devoted himself greatly to the use of watercolor. John Whorf is primarily known for his works on paper. His style can be likened to that of Frank Benson and John Singer Sargeant. Whorf studied at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts under Max Bohn and then under Charles Hawthorne and Richard Miller. His style is very much his own and not similar to that of his mentors. He also studied at the Colarossi in Paris. His prizes and exhibitions were numerous.
